As a fitness professional my whole career has been shaped by personal trials and tribulations. I’ve had injuries and pain so bad I barely could walk, so I wanted to figure out how to fix it. I was prescribed medication to deal with anxiety but learned that implementing stress managing techniques like meditation and good sleep could benefit me more than any medication. Through these personal experiences, I realized just how important total health was and I was meant to do much more than count sets and reps.
If there is an area I consider myself most passionate about it is movement. I started this journey as a personal trainer wanting to help fix people that either hurt or had issues accomplishing specific tasks. This led me along a path of corrective exercise certifications, Pilates education, and finally into a fellowship with world-renowned physical therapists at the Gray Institute. I take great pride and joy in helping someone move better and function without pain. I’ve been there and know just how consuming both of those things can be mentally and physically.
I learned from my experience in understanding movement the similarities to improving overall health. Very small and specific things like a joint in your foot has to move properly to make the chain reaction all the way up the leg occur so forces are distributed evenly. Things like this helped me start to see how the food we eat, the way we manage stress, and the quality of sleep we get can affect all the intricate processes going on with total health. Since then my goal has been to learn more about all things health so I can not only help people reduce pain, move better, feel better, but live the healthiest and happiest life possible.
